Capacity Building

General Information

Primarily under the leadership of ISN's Commission on the Global Advancement of Nephrology (COMGAN) ISN operates one of the largest medical specialty outreach programs in the world. With over 200 of the world's most eminent nephrologists volunteering time to teach in the emerging world (over 100 countries to date), ISN COMGAN works with national and regional societies as well as local thought-leaders to identify and deliver educational and clinical needs in areas of the globe previously limited in exposure to formal nephrology education and practice.

ISN's Capacity Building Programs

CMEs
ISN's Continuing Medical Education (CME) program is among the most successful of all of the Society's undertakings. Expert speakers are selected to provide high level education at nephrological meetings in the emerging world.

Fellowships
The ISN Fellowship program is dedicated to promoting and advancing the education of physicians coming from emerging economies.

Sister Renal Centers Program
The Sister Renal Centers (SRC) program advances nephrology by linking renal units in the developing world with centers of excellence in the developed world.

Research and Prevention Call for Proposals
The Research and Prevention Call for Proposals Program has been developed to help support selected prevention projects in developing countries on a competitive basis. It focuses specifically on screening, prevention and research.

Visiting Scholars and Short Visits
The Visiting Scholar program enables senior physicians and scientists who are experts in nephrology and related disciplines to undertake an educational mission of several weeks at an institution in the developing world.
The Short Visits program is geared towards a small team of renal allied health professionals who can spend up to several weeks of training in a developed nephrology unit.

Travel Grants
To increase accessibility, ISN provides travel grants to its biennial World Congresses of Nephrology, the annual ISN Forefronts Conferences, the Nexus Symposia, and other selected educational events of high scientific value.
