General Information
In 2003, under the patronage of Professor Rashad Barsoum, the ISN launched the 'Global Fellowship Clubs'. The goal of the Global Fellowship Clubs (GFCs) is to create a comfortable yet stimulating environment for past Fellows to meet, interact, and continue to learn from each other, thereby building on experiences gained during their ISN Fellowships abroad.
Medical cases may be shared and joint initiatives launched in the areas of research, registries, and community service. The groups are encouraged to meet at frequent intervals for scientific discussions, symposia and guest lectures, as well as for social functions. These interactions ideally also extend to the GFCs of neighboring countries in order to achieve a network that is truly global.
ISN encourages past and present Fellows to form regional clubs and to provide a networking platform for interaction, information exchange and joint initiatives.
Any group of past ISN Fellows is welcome to establish a Global Fellowship Club. GFCs have full autonomy and flexibility; ISN makes no specific requirements about structure, organization or responsibilities. The only requirement that ISN insists upon is that the work of the GFC is complementary to and in collaboration with their national and regional nephrology societies. The GFC should not compete with these societies’ activities or goals, and ISN will not regard any GFC as an official national nephrological organization.
Each GFC is strongly encouraged to inform ISN Global Operations Center about its establishment, members, meetings and activities. News and updates from the individual groups will be posted on the ISN website, alongside articles featuring specific projects.
