Library Enhancement Program

General Information

The ISN Library Enhancement Program was jointly launched in 1992 by ISN and Blackwell Science with the aim of making the Society’s official journal, Kidney International, available to libraries in economically emerging areas of the world that could otherwise not afford the subscription fee.

The dissemination of knowledge is one of ISN's main missions: This ISN Global Outreach Program provides educational tools to libraries that would otherwise not have access to current literature. Besides Kidney International and NCP Nephrology, relevant nephrological textbooks, journals, and scientific resources are also donated if and when they become available. ISN actively seeks free subscriptions to journals belonging to other societies.

Other educational online resources, which are available at no charge, can be located on the Nephrology Gateway under Education and Resources.

Application

To be eligible for this program, libraries must be both:

  • Attached to official academic or hospital institutions located in countries with an emerging economy (as per World Bank classification of lower and middle income economies)
  • Managed and staffed by a librarian.

To verify the World Bank classification of your country, please see

World Bank List of Economies (xls, 59.5 KB)

Libraries need to reapply to the ISN every two years to retain their status within the Program.
