New Online Portal to Launch in November

Completely rebranded and enhanced, the
ISN website (www.isn-online.org)
will soon be known as the Nephrology
Gateway
— a new educational portal and single point
of access to the latest news on kidney and related diseases, research
developments, treatment updates, educational resources, and ISN programs
and services. Specific new benefits will include:

  • A job bank, powered by Naturejobs and listing attractive
    positions available in our field.
  • The Gateway’s literature
    review – reporting on
published data in other journals in nephrology and related disciplines
to keep all members fully up to date.
  • Original commentaries and
    news articles.
  • An easy to use conference calendar.
  • Full on-line access to both
Kidney International and Nature Clinical Practice
    Nephrology.

In addition to Kidney International’s online version, the
journal’s recently launched Spanish and Portuguese editions
will be accessible online via the Nephrology Gateway.

The Nephrology Gateway (with the same ISN URL — www.isn-online.org)
will be formally unveiled at this year’s edition of the American
Society of Nephrology’s (ASN) Renal
Week in early November.

Pakistan Quake Elicits Rapid ISN Response

ISN’s reaction to Pakistan’s worst-ever earthquake
was to immediately send in its Renal Disaster Relief Task Force,
under the leadership of Dr. Ray Vanholder. In collaboration with
colleagues from M?decins Sans Fronti?res, Task
Force members were on the ground in Islamabad within days of
the quake, reporting regularly on the scale of this catastrophe
and anticipating the likely demands for dialysis equipment and
assistance for crush syndrome casualties.

Member Discount on Crush Syndrome Book

In the days following another horrific
earthquake, which occurred in Marmara, Turkey in 1999, the Turkish
Society of Nephrology, in collaboration with ISN’s Renal
Disaster Relief Task Force, prepared special questionnaires to
obtain patient data and follow-up information to analyze the
extent of the nephrological problems. A recent book, entitled
The Crush Syndrome (and Lessons Learned
from the Marmara Earthquake)
,
is based on the 639 cases documented, constituting an unprecedented
collection of first-hand experience on crush syndrome-related
ARF following earthquakes. In addition to the data and analysis
gained from the Marmara earthquake, each chapter also summarizes
classical information on crush syndrome.

ISN Members benefit from a special discount of 20% off the cover
