General Information
Owing to the fact that many libraries in developing countries are poorly stocked, in 1992 ISN and
Blackwell Science
undertook to support close to 200 medical schools and hospitals worldwide with free subscriptions to
Kidney International
. The program was a success and has continued to the present day. Besides KI, current nephrological textbooks are also donated as they become available. While the focus has been on nephrology, material has been provided for other disciplines as well.
In addition to the Library Enhancement Program, ISN prepares and distributes a variety of teaching materials, including extensive renal histopathology and hypertension slide sets to each library. An immediate goal of the Society is to help developing centers acquire personal computers, thereby enabling them to take advantage of less costly CD-ROM technology and information available on the Internet.
