The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) continues to promote global collaboration and knowledge exchange by endorsing scientific and educational events that contribute meaningfully to kidney care advancement. In April 2025, ISN representatives will actively support two high-impact events: the 1st International Conference of Doctors and Students in Nephrology in Croatia, and the 2025 Congress of the African Association of Nephrology (AFRAN) in Tunisia.
1st International Conference of Doctors and Students in Nephrology
Theme: Kidney in Focus: Young Physicians Leading the Way
Dates: April 10–13, 2025
Location: Zagreb, Croatia
Bringing together emerging medical professionals and experts in nephrology, this inaugural Croatian conference provides a dynamic platform for students and early-career doctors to engage with clinical challenges and innovations in kidney health. ISN President Marcello Tonelli will welcome participants with a pre-recorded address to mark the opening of this exciting new educational venture.
AFRAN 2025 Congress
Dates: April 15–18, 2025
Location: Tunis, Tunisia
AFRAN 2025 integrates three prestigious events into one landmark gathering:
-
18th Congress of the African Association of Nephrology
-
9th North African Congress of Nephrology
-
12th Congress of the Tunisian Society of Nephrology, Dialysis, and Kidney Transplantation
The congress will celebrate excellence in African nephrology with the presentation of the ISN 2025 Pioneer Award for the Africa Region to Professor Boucar Diouf of Senegal. ISN President Marcello Tonelli will deliver both the award introduction and a keynote lecture titled “The Burden of CKD and Other NCDs in Africa: Opportunities and Challenges for Health Systems” during the opening ceremony on April 15 from 6:00–7:30 p.m. Africa time.
Professor Abdou Niang, AFRAN president-elect and president of the Senegalese Society of Nephrology, Dialysis, and Transplantation, will deliver a special tribute to Professor Diouf, recognizing his groundbreaking contributions. These include founding the nephrology training programs at Cheikh Anta Diop University, serving as AFRAN president (2011–2013), and playing a central role in expanding kidney care infrastructure across West Africa.
ISN is proud to support the AFRAN Congress through its Continuing Medical Education Grant Program, enabling participation from top international faculty, including:
-
Bianca Davidson (South Africa)
-
Rumeyza Kazancioglu (Turkey)
-
Valerie Luyckx (Switzerland)
-
Maria Pippias (UK)
-
Marcello Tonelli (Canada)
-
Ahmed Saeed (UK)
In addition to scientific sessions, attendees can join the ISN Breakfast Session: ISN Programs and Opportunities, an interactive forum highlighting how ISN initiatives are transforming global kidney care. ISN staff will be available throughout the event at the ISN booth to connect with attendees and share resources.
If you’re organizing a meeting focused on kidney health—large or small—you can apply for ISN endorsement. Recognized events gain increased visibility, academic credibility, and expanded educational reach.
