Educational Ambassadors Program

Educational Ambassadors Program

Photo EAP Vietnam 2011The Educational Ambassadors Program aims at advancing nephrology in the developing world through very concrete hands-on training programs, enabling the impact to be well monitored. The program also provides ISN members and younger nephrologists with an invaluable opportunity for personal involvement in the society’s educational programs while enhancing the sense of global solidarity and awareness in the renal world.

Through this program, centers in the emerging world can request a teacher or an expert to join them onsite for the provision of very specific hands- on training (examples would include setting up acute and chronic dialysis programs, renal pathology, CKD management in a local setting and others) or to initiate and develop community based research and screening programs.

Emerging centers who require the visit of an expert can either suggest someone they know already or ask the ISN Headquarters to match their request with an available ISN Educational Ambassador qualified in the field of  training required. ISN supports the  Educational Ambassador to deliver high quality and relevant training for a period of 1-4 weeks.

Qualified ISN members can also request to be listed as available experts and volunteer to become ISN Educational Ambassadors. Click here to discover the current list of ISN Educational Ambassadors.

ISN invites applications from emerging centers as well as potential Educational Ambassadors.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  pdfDiscover the New Educational Ambassadors Program Leaflet

Program Format

May 1st is the deadline for the submission of final applications from emerging centers wishing to invite an Educational Ambassador. These applications must be pre-endorsed by the relevant regional committee in order to ensure relevance and feasibility. See the Program Application page for more details.

ATTENTION! Before submitting an application, emerging centers must be in contact with a potential trainer.  The ISN Headquarters can help find an expert that matches their needs. If you need the support of the ISN Headquarters to find an Educational Ambassador, please send them a form describing your needs. See the Program Application page for more details.

All applications submitted by 1st May are then assessed and ranked competitively by a board of reviewers. The outcome of the application session will be announced within the next 2 months. ISN mainly provides financial support for the plane ticket (economy class) to the host center. The inviting host center is in principle expected to cover costs related to accommodation, meals and local transportation – some exceptions may be approved at the discretion of the Program Chair.

The visits must take place after September or in the following year in order to leave sufficient time for careful preparation of the visit and program set-up. A standard course is considered to be 1 or 2 weeks with a range of 1 – 4 weeks.

After the training, both the host center and educational ambassador must submit a report within 30 days. These reports are reviewed by the Chair of the Program and the relevant regional committee who will be in charge of following-up and assessing the impact of the course.

Certificates of appreciation after successful training will be given to the educational ambassador only after the Chair of the Program has reviewed the report.
The submission of a report is important for the ISN and will certainly be taken into account when considering possible future applications.
