apsnlogo1This year, the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology (APSN) will co-fund eight ISN Sister Renal Centers (SRC) from OSEA, South Asia and North & East Asia.

Following the recent call for applications, APSN will now continue co-sponsoring seven pairs and lend its support to a new partnership between the Zainoel Abidin Provincial Hospital, Banda Aceh (Indonesia) and Gold Coast Hospital, Brisbane (Australia).

Thanks to APSN co-funding several centers have been upgraded. The partnership between Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam) and Westmead Hospital, Sydney (Australia) has advanced to level A.

ISN President-Elect David Harris believes that with support from Westmead Hospital (Australia), the Vietnamese center has already made great strides in kidney transplantation and dialysis access. “This is only the second time centers in the OSEA region have achieved SRC level A.”

Two sister pairs will advance to level B, including: Viet Duc Hospital, Hanoi (Vietnam) and Juntendo University Hospital, Tokyo (Japan) as well as Bach Mai Hospital, Nephro-urology Department, Hanoi (Vietnam) and the National Center for Global Health and Medicine, Tokyo (Japan).

FijiMoreover, the collaboration between the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (Fiji) and Concord Hospital (Australia) has shown rapid progress and moved to level B. It is the first partnership in the Pacific Islands, where there is a pressing need for more renal services. CLICK HERE to read more about their activities.

Finally, these pairs will spend their second year at level C:

  •  Sanglah Hospital, Denpasar (Bali) and Royal Perth Hospital (Australia)
  • Children's Hospital Renal Unit, Yangon (Myanmar) and Shaw-NKF-NUH Children's Kidney Center, Khoo Teck Puat National University Children’s Medical Institute (Singapore)
  • Thingangyun Sanpya General Hospital, Yangon (Myanmar) and National University Hospital (Singapore)

The ISN SRC Program aims to advance the practice of nephrology in the developing world by linking renal units with centers of excellence and providing different means of support and guidance. After the centers graduate from the program, they can provide state-of-the-art clinical practice, become hubs for the diffusion of knowledge, training and implementation of disease-preventive strategies within their geographical outreach. They also potentially provide support to other centers within the same geographical region through the ISN SRC Trio Program.

The next application deadline is October 1st, 2016. For further information, CLICK HERE.
