Fellowship Training Award Program
Successful Fellowship Applicants for session 2004-1
General Information The ISN Fellowship Program was established in 1985 by Dr. Claude Amiel. Its objective is to offer relevant training opportunities to young nephrologists in emerging countries, with the ultimate goal of improving the home institutions’ standards upon the Fellows’ return. Fellows are required to return to their home countries after their training to convey knowledge and experience in basic and clinical nephrology, dialysis, transplantation and epidemiology – thereby teaching countless young physicians and provide critical enhancement to kidney disease care. A recent survey indicated that upon completion of training and return to their home countries, over 80% of the fellows are now in positions in local academic centers with direct impact on clinical care and teaching. As of the end of 2002, 323 fellows from 65 countries all over the globe had been trained in hundreds of host institutions in 17 countries. Since its inception, the ISN has spent over US$ 12 million on the Fellowship Program – a considerable investment but a priceless contribution to the global dissemination of nephrology science and clinical care through highly skilled national leaders. The Program offers two types of fellowships:
