Explanation and Purpose
The International Society of Nephrology is proud to announce the creation of a new award, the Roscoe R. Robinson Award, to be given for outstanding contributions in the field of education in nephrology and medicine.
This new award is being established in special recognition of the late Roscoe “Ike” R. Robinson, who was the founding editor of our Society journal,Kidney International, and who was also the great inspiration and driver of the ISN’s current structure and overall programs.
To be presented for the first time during the World Congress of Nephrology inSingaporein June 2005, this award will complement the ISN’s J. Hamburger and A.N. Richards Awards, which are established recognitions to those who have made significant clinical and basic science contributions in nephrology, respectively.
With the creation of the Roscoe R. Robinson Award, the International Society of Nephrology will be able honor not only nephrology colleagues for outstanding achievements in the field of education, but also scientists and clinicians as well as non-medical persons outside of nephrology (e.g., the director of WHO or other health organizations, the editor of a major journal dedicated to advancement of health on an international scale, and colleagues working in related fields such as diabetes and hypertension).
Description of the Award
An award of $10,000 USD payable in American funds to an individual winner will be made at the biennial congress of the ISN. A joint award for the same discovery or contribution may be given, usually to no more than two individuals. Awards are presented in person at the biennial ISN World Congress of Nephrology to each winner.
