Strengthening Global Kidney Transplantation: New Partnerships, Upgraded Collaborations, and Milestone Graduations through the ISN-TTS Sister Transplant Centers Program

The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and The Transplantation Society (TTS) are delighted to welcome five newly established partnerships into the 2025 ISN-TTS Sister Transplant Centers (STC) Program. These dynamic collaborations are designed to foster knowledge exchange, build transplant capacity, and expand access to life-saving kidney transplantation services across the globe.

Newly Accepted Partnerships in 2025:

  • Philippines–Philippines–Spain (Trio Collaboration):
Cotabato Regional Medical Center, Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), and Hospital Clínic (HC) of the University of Barcelona unite in a three-way alliance. SPMC and HC previously completed the STC program as a pair in 2023, and now continue their commitment by mentoring a new center in Cotabato.

  • Nigeria–Canada:
Adult and Paediatric Nephrology Unit, University College Hospital Ibadan, Nigeria, partners with the Nephrology Section at Alberta Children’s Hospital, Canada, to expand both adult and pediatric transplantation services.

  • Peru–USA:
Unidad de Trasplante Renal, Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins joins with Yale Health, USA, focusing on sustainable transplant care models and healthcare training.

  • Zambia–USA:
University Teaching Hospital of Lusaka partners with Stanford University to enhance clinical expertise and service delivery in Zambia’s capital.

  • Zambia–Spain:
Ndola Teaching Hospital is now partnered with University Hospital of A Coruña, further extending transplant capabilities within Zambia’s Copperbelt Province.

In addition to these new alliances, six existing partnerships have successfully progressed to higher levels within the program — a testament to their significant achievements in transplant education, patient outcomes, and infrastructure development.

Furthermore, the long-standing partnership between the Human Organ Transplant Center (Nepal) and Freeman Hospital (UK) has officially graduated from the program, having reached full operational maturity and self-sufficiency in delivering advanced transplant care.

As of 2025, the ISN-TTS STC Program proudly supports 22 active partnerships spanning multiple continents, making a tangible impact on kidney transplant care in low-resource and emerging settings. You can explore these partnerships and their global locations [here] (insert link).

The ISN-TTS STC initiative serves as a flagship grant program, co-led by ISN and TTS, with a mission to help develop new kidney transplant centers and elevate existing programs to international standards. The program is built on a strong foundation of mentorship, resource sharing, clinical training, and academic collaboration — ultimately working toward equitable access to transplantation worldwide.

The ISN and TTS extend heartfelt congratulations to the newly upgraded and graduated centers for their remarkable accomplishments. Likewise, we warmly welcome the new 2025 partnerships and offer our full support as they begin their transformative journeys through the STC Program.

Together, we are building a stronger, more inclusive global transplant community — one partnership at a time.
