This second part of this webinar series on slowing CKD progression will help you become familiar with the outcome data evaluating CKD progression in the context of glycemic control as well as with the data from short versus long term studies that evaluates the impact of glycemic control on CKD progression.
Description of the Webinar
Historically glycemic control has not been associated with a significant slowing of CKD progression. Rather is is more closely tided to reduced risk of retinopathy and neuropathy development. More recently, very long term epidemiological studies spanning more than 25-30 years demonstrate a benefit of glycemic control on slowing nephropathy progression. These are seen largely from the DCCT/EDIC studies in Type 1 diabetes. Clearly, while glycemic control is not as substantive as blood pressure it adds benefit over the long term.
