PermalinkBuena noche

PermalinkThis is an excellent technique which also have the following advantages:
1) Catheter can be removed easily under local anaesthetic without the need for a theatre and diathermy (no cuffs within muscle).
2) The catheter can be removed and replaced through the same incision.
3) You can use curly (pig-tailed) catheters and swan neck catheters
4) You can use immediately for acute PD (sometimes worth just putting in extra sutures around the incision site if you intend to do this).
5) Can be performed by surgeons, physicians, radiologists and nurses.
6)It is easy to teach.
7)Can be modified for Moncrief Popovitch technique
8) No general anaesthesia
We have saved countless in-patient bed days, money and surgical list spaces using this technique. Patients often prefer the day case surgery and rapid access and lack of discomfort to a general anaesthetic procedure.
My other comments are;
1) The patient should have a check ultrasound to ensure the bladder is empty before the procedure.
2) This was a particularly thin patient. Sometimes you need a much longer needle if the patient is bigger.
3) Mainly catheters go in the correct place, but if you absolutetly have to know that the catheter is positioned correctly do it with x-ray screening. BUT even if they do initially go in the correct space, they can migrate no matter which technique you use.0 Like -

Guest - Pigtail Catheter
PermalinkPigtail Catheter is exclusively used for abscess drainage such as bile, urine or pancreatic fluids. Only trained man power only should install and use Pigtail Catheter in order to avoid injuries in the track. A range of Polymers are used for the construction of Pigtail Catheters including silicone rubber, latex, and thermoplastic elastomers. The most common material for manufacturing Pigtail Catheter is silicone because it is inert and un reactive to body fluids and a range of medical fluids with which it might come into contact. Catheters are typically used to drain fluids from the body. Most of us have heard about urinary Catheters. Apart from this there are other type of catheters used to drain fluids from the body.
