The increase in serum ferritin levels (250 ng/ml) is considered a matter of concern to some of the Japanese physicians. On the other hand, in the United States, ferric citrate is thought to be an anti-anemia agent as well as a phosphate binder.3 Thus, the value of ferric citrate, an iron-containing phosphate binder, might be different between Japan and the United States.
