Description of the Webinar

Peritoneal dialysis access placement presents a major barrier to development of peritoneal dialysis provision in both acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease. Although previously felt to be the remit of surgeons, peritoneal access can and should be managed by the nephrologist using a team based approach. It has been shown that in units where nephrologists place Tenckhoff catheters there are much higher PD penetration rates. This webinar will discuss the various aspects of peritoneal access from an interventional nephrologist's perspective.

About the Facilitator

Dr. Brett Cullis -  Dr. Brett Cullis is a consultant nephrologist and intensive care specialist in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. He has developed peritoneal dialysis programs in South Africa and is involved in expanding services in many African countries. He sits on the interventional nephrology committee of the ISN and has trained doctors from more than 15 countries in bedside insertion of Tenckhoff catheters. His specialist interest is in critical care nephrology and nephrology dservice provision in developing countries. He was the primary author of the ISPD guidelines for PD in AKI.
