This webinar will present the techinical tools and developments in the field of assessing fluid status in chronic dialysis patients.
Description of the Webinar
Despite significant progress in dialysis-related technology, the assessment of fluid status remains controversial and a major challenge for the clinical nephrologist. Fluid overload and depletion are associated to outcomes in dialysis patients. This webinar will discuss the physiology and pathophysiology of body fluid compartments; sequelae of fluid overload, and technical tools to assess fluid status. Furthermore, the webinar will sketch future developments in the field.

About the Facilitators
Peter Kotanko, MD is Research Director at the Renal Research Institute (RRI), New York. Prior to joining RRI, from 1997 to 2007 he served as Vice Chair of a Department of Internal Medicine in Graz, Austria. Prior to moving to Graz in 1989, he worked 1982-89 at the Department of Physiology and the University Clinic of Internal Medicine, Innsbruck, Austria. From 1995-6 he trained in nephrology at the Hammersmith Hospital, London, UK. He holds teaching appointments at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, and the Medical University Innsbruck. He has authored and co-authored around 200 papers and book chapters. |
