web-Fig-4_-SL-HEALTH-MINISTER-2_2In May, ISN leaders participated in the first ISN Continuous Medical Education course in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Association of Nephrology and Transplantation and the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine of the University of Colombo co-sponsored this event.

For several years, ISN has looked into Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in North Sri Lanka. The course focused on how CKD is being investigated by local epidemiologists, the effects of snake bite poisoning and World Kidney Day 2012 activities.

Delegates met with local World Health Organization (WHO) representatives in Sri Lanka and the country’s Health Minister. He wants to advocate for a stronger visibility of kidney disease on the WHO agenda at the upcoming Global Health Assembly and accepted a letter endorsing ISN’s application for a working relationship with WHO.
