After much activity through the ISN Global Outreach Program in recent years, a Continuing Medical Education (CME) course was organized in Douala Cameroon by Gloria Ashuntantang, on behalf of the Cameroon Society of Nephrology. The meeting took place from November 23 to 25, 2012.
Participants not only came from Cameroon but also from many other countries of West Africa, including Benin, and the Ivory coast. This CME was set up in collaboration with the European Society and the International Society of Hypertension, the International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA) and the European Renal Association – European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA/EDTA).
This great collaboration was revealed in the choice of speakers from different societies: Norbert Lameire (ISN), Gerard London (ISN), Raymond Vanholder (ERA-EDTA), Michel Jadoul (ERA-EDTA), Pierre Cochat (IPNA), Georges Deschenes (IPNA), and Laurence Adonis (IPNA)
Some 77 young trainees in nephrology and medical students attended this meeting. Two of the young physicians who attended the CME have now enrolled into residency in nephrology. Four final year medical students from the medical school in Yaound?, who attended the meeting, were able to discuss their research proposals with some speakers who are experts in their area of research. One ISN fellow Marie-Patrice Halle also attended the meeting and participated in the discussions.
The local organizers would like to thank the ISN for this immense education support and look forward to more courses in the future.
