Membership Categories
The ISN consists of five classes of members:
(1) Regular members and Joint members
(2) Affiliated Societies
(3) Emeritus members
(4) Honorary members
(5) Corporate members
1a) Eligible for membership is
any physician or scientist who has manifested a scientific interest in nephrology. He or
she pays annual dues which includes a subscription to the Society’s official Journal Kidney
International. Fellows are members of the General Assembly and eligible to vote and
hold office. Applications for fellowship of the ISN should be submitted to the ISN
Treasurer’s office.
The 2001 annual ISN individual membership fee- two
options:
- US $150 for both the PAPER and an ELECTRONIC (internet) copy of Kidney
International - US $130 for only the ELECTRONIC (internet) copy of Kidney
International. You will not receive a magazine in the mail with this

1b) The ISN Joint
Membership Program
is for 2-10 individuals to have full ISN membership and to share a Kidney International
issue for US $100/year. This offer is only for new members from emerging countries (see country exclusion list based on World
Bank annual proportional purchasing power (PPP) greater than US $10,000). Each individual
participating in a single Joint Membership must sign the application and commit to sharing
the monthly issue of KI.
2) Affiliated Societies
are national or regional societies that adequately represent those concerned with
scientific studies in the realm of nephrology. Affiliated Societies may be other
scientific societies or represent a country, a grouping of countries by common consent, a
region, a continent, or other geographic entities. There may only be one Affiliated
Society per country or region, but exceptions may be granted by the Council. A responsible
officer of each Affiliated Society will send annually a list of individual members to the
Secretary General of the ISN. To retain their affiliated status and to vote at the General
Assembly, the list must be submitted at least six months before each Congress of ISN; in
addition, the activities of the Affiliated Society should conform to the general purposes
of the ISN. Affiliated Societies will each have two votes in the General Assembly.
3) Requests for Emeritus
membership
can be made by those who have been a member for a minimum of ten years. An appropriate
request should be made to the Secretary General of the ISN for cause, such as disability,
retirement, hardship, etc. Emeritus Members do not pay dues. Emeritus Members may
choose to continue to receive Kidney International at a reduced rate ($85 in
1999).
4) Honorary
membership
may be conferred upon any individual who has made a contribution of exceptional merit.
Honorary members shall be nominated by the Council and are subject to approval by the
General Assembly. Honorary Members pay no dues and will receive the Journal for free.
5) Corporate
membership
may be extended to any corporation, partnership, foundation, society, or other
organization that has contributed to the ISN annually a sum fixed by the Executive
Committee. Corporate membership includes one subscription to Kidney International.
Corporate membership is authorized by the Council and shall be recognized annually in at
least one publication of the ISN.
