ISN Fellow Christopher NigeriaISN Fellow Christopher Obiorah just returned from his training at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, USA. He hopes to improve standards of care and start a renal pathology program in his home country.

Based at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital in Nigeria, he joined the team at Brigham and Women's Hospital for eight months under the mentorship of ISN Educational Ambassador Vanesa Bijol.

Since his return, he has been raising awareness about the need for nephrologists to improve their knowledge of clinical procedures such as kidney biopsies.  He says: “I’m also trying to change the way that we process kidney biopsies and ensure that we do serial sections to get different views of the deeper sections.”

As well as learning more about the latest clinical procedures, he also got involved in the histological evaluation of frozen section donors and regular transplanted kidney biopsies.

On working with Christopher, Vanessa Bijol says: “He spent a considerable time studying clinical cases, technical aspects of renal pathology, and doing clinical research on cases of paraprotein related kidney disease. He is very determined to help start the renal pathology program in Nigeria.”

The deadline to apply for the ISN Fellowship Program is October 1st, 2015. For further information, CLICK HERE.
