This webinar will identify social, economic and ethnic characteristics of Latin America, recognize the burden of disease risk factors and ESRD in this region and highlight the present gap between estimated incidence of ESRD and real access to therapy.

This presentation was given by Vishal Vaidya, Associate Professor of Medicine and Head of Systems Toxicology for the Harvard Program in Theurapeutic Sciences. It was presented during the CRRT Conference 2015: “Updates in ICU Medicine: Controversies, Challenges and Solutions,” held in San Diego from 17-20 February 2015.

In an educational program a complete and up-to-date Curriculum is essential. The Residents, Fellows, and Practicing Nephrologists rely on their mentors to train them in procedures necessary to provide successful dialysis access. However, since there are several ways to accomplish any goal, the trainees also need a Curriculum which summarizes literature to provide evidence regarding advantages and disadvantages of each technique. This Core Curriculum provides this summary for peritoneal dialysis catheter procedures, which are the sine qua non of a successful dialysis program.

The Curriculum represents a collaborative effort from Interventional Nephrologists in a wide variety of practices, from Universities to Private Hospitals to Access Centers. Each author is a recognized expert in the particular procedure or technique that they present.
