ASDINThe American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology (ASDIN) is pleased to announce a new partnership with ISN. This is a big achievement that has been in the works for the past year led by Dr. Tushar Vachharajani, Chair of ASDIN’s International Committee.

C-KinThe Cancer and Kidney International Network (C-KIN) aims at improving patient care through better knowledge, information and awareness on cancer and kidney related issues. Moreover, C-KIN will be at the forefront of providing the education on cancer and impact on the kidney related issues.

 

world-hypertension-dayWorld Hypertension Day, is annually celebrated on May 17, 2014 to emphasize opportunities to improve prevention and control of hypertension. In 2014, the World Hypertension League (WHL) will initiate the celebrations on Friday May 16, 2014 by announcing results of its 2013-2014 campaign to assist national hypertension organizations in developing widespread  screening programs to identify those with hypertension.

Dr. Bernd Tersteegen, the founder of the Verband Deutsche Nierenzentren (DN) e.V., was dedicated to improving outpatient treatment modalities in end stage renal disease. Specifically, he focused on the further technical development of hemodialysis. The Bernd Tersteegen award was established following his death in 1995. The prize is awarded internationally for basic and particularly for clinical research related to chronic renal insufficiency and to advances in treatment of end stage renal disease.

TSN logoThe Turkish Society of Nephrology (TSN) was founded in Istanbul 41 years ago. Since then, it has played an important role in hosting events and meetings in the field of nephrology. Currently, TSN has 411 active members and Turkish membership at ISN has now reached 273.

ISN agrees to partnership with IPNA

ISN and the International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA) have recently signed an agreement to develop a partnership and to express their mutual commitment to the advancement of nephrology.

Fresh from TED2011 last week: Surgeon Anthony Atala demonstrates an early-stage experiment that could someday solve the organ-donor problem: a 3D printer that uses living cells to output a transplantable kidney. ISN and IPNA consensus statement to appear in KI

ISN and the International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA) have written and endorsed a consensus statement describing how young people with kidney disease should be cared for when they are transferred from pediatric to adult nephrology units. The statement is set to be published in the September edition of Kidney International and IPNA’s Pediatric Nephrology Journal.

Every year, a number of British Columbians are pursuing black market kidney transplants in countries such as India, China and the Philippines. In doing so, they may be risking their own lives, and those of the donors — many of whom are exploited.

Shire “Make a Difference” at ERA-EDTA congress in Munich

This allows Shire funds to support renal associations that encourage improved service delivery and patient care. In addition, Shire will be supporting local communities by donating the furniture and building blocks used on the Shire Interactive Space to local charities after the event.

The ISN is proud to be one of three non-profit organizations selected as recipients of those funds (the others being the Fabry Foundation and KDIGO). Shire has devised a very innovative and fun way to involve congress participants in the selection of how much will go to each of the three organizations.
