The ISN-YNC Mentoring Program was established in 2010 in order to foster international relationships between nephrologists and nephrologists-in-training or more junior nephrologists/nephrology researchers. The participants communicate primarily by email or teleconferences usually once or twice per month to discuss clinical cases and/or research projects of mutual interest. We are actively expanding this program to include more mentors from the ISN Young Nephrologists’ Committee as well as more senior members of the ISN leadership. A mentoring relationship will be established for a minimum of one-year, and an annual assessment of whether to complete or continue the mentorship program participation for each pair will be determined.
The program has a special interest in promoting exchange visits between the mentees and the mentors so that all can learn from each other. Therefore, participants of this program will be given additional consideration when applying for ISN Global Outreach (GO) or ISN Research Fellowship travel awards.
Faculty mentors should be members of academic medical centers with experience in clinical nephrology and/or research. Mentors who are currently in fellowship training are also welcomed and will be paired with medical students or medical residents. As a general rule, mentors will be assigned to no more than two people at any given time.
